EXPERIENCE

FiServ

Peter Cavicchia most recently served as Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, and Head of Global Corporate Security at Fiserv, one of the world’s leading payments and financial technology providers. As a member of the company’s Executive Management Committee, he led a global organization of more than 3,500 personnel, with 13 direct reports and an annual operating budget exceeding $1.6 billion. His organization was responsible for the technology, cloud, infrastructure, data-center, corporate security, and technology-risk capabilities that supported Fiserv’s mission-critical merchant, payments, and banking platforms in a highly regulated environment.

During his tenure as CTO, which began in June 2021, Cavicchia defined and carried out multi-year modernization strategies spanning lifecycle refresh, data-center rationalization, public-cloud deployment, technology-estate consolidation, and platform resilience. He embedded AI-enabled predictive modeling, anomaly detection, data governance, and predictive incident analysis into the company’s technology platforms and operations. He reported regularly to the Board on technology risk, cybersecurity, operational resilience, material threats, and control effectiveness, and was known for distilling deep technical complexity into clear, decision-oriented narratives for directors and senior executives.

Cavicchia was also a senior client-facing executive. He led technology, cybersecurity, and fraud discussions with major global banks, regional banks, credit unions, and large omnichannel retailers, supporting new business, retention, and relationship expansion. He created a Client Technology Advocate organization that gave clients a single point of contact across the many Fiserv products and platforms they used, strengthening coordination, transparency, and trust. He provided key leadership input into fraud-decisioning products, risk-scoring capabilities, and transaction controls supporting the STAR debit network and Fiserv’s card-issuing business, and he managed strategic partnerships with global technology providers to evaluate and deploy next-generation capabilities. He also oversaw global corporate-security operations, including facilities security, executive protection, investigations, and pre-employment screening.

First Data

Cavicchia joined First Data in 2013 and rose to Senior Vice President and Deputy Chief Administrative Officer. He directed the company’s global cybersecurity, risk management, fraud prevention, transaction decisioning, and merchant credit-risk functions, and helped lead First Data’s turnaround from significant losses as a KKR portfolio company through its $2.56 billion initial public offering in 2015, its return to profitability, and its 2019 acquisition by Fiserv.

As Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, his responsibilities expanded to include global strategic sourcing for more than $10 billion in annual goods and services, as well as global real estate and facilities operations, including leasing, major construction, and strategic site initiatives. He also led global collections operations for merchant services, redesigning processes that recovered more than $250 million annually. He served as a member of the company’s top-ten CEO advisory group, contributing to enterprise priorities and transformation decisions, and following the Fiserv combination he worked to deliver synergies across his areas of responsibility.

JPMorgan Chase

Before joining First Data, Cavicchia spent nine years at JPMorgan Chase. He joined in 2004 as a Vice President in Fraud Prevention and Investigations, where he built the firm’s digital-forensics capabilities, led complex internal investigations supporting legal and regulatory matters, and created programs to detect improper access to bank systems and retail-branch fraud patterns. In 2008, he was promoted to Managing Director, becoming one of the youngest leaders at the firm to attain that title.

As Managing Director of IT Risk and Security within the Operational Control Organization, he led vulnerability management, cyber intelligence, data-loss prevention, digital forensics, and internal investigations across the firm’s global banking environment. He designed data-analytics platforms that identified internal ethics violations and external fraud across online banking, ATM, card, and other remote channels, and helped develop analytics systems for managing distressed mortgages and short sales that contributed to approximately $1 billion in savings. Working with Legal and Compliance, he led responses to large-scale regulatory and government inquiries, and he supported risk, security, and business-continuity priorities during the crisis-era integrations of Bear Stearns and Washington Mutual.

Secret Service

Prior to entering financial services, Cavicchia served six years with the United States Secret Service, rising to Supervisory Special Agent. He led multinational cybercrime investigations as part of a multi-agency task force whose model was later codified for federal cybercrime task forces under the USA PATRIOT Act. Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, he partnered with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to trace terrorist use of U.S. telecommunications and financial systems, producing analyses presented in FISA court. He also provided protection for the President of the United States and other world leaders in high-threat environments. In 2001, he received the Secret Service Medal of Valor, the agency’s highest honor, for heroic actions at the World Trade Center on September 11.

Early Career

Cavicchia began his career in 1996 as an investigative agent in the Major Crimes division of the Morris County, N.J., Prosecutor’s Office, where he supported investigations ranging from homicide and robbery to white-collar and narcotics cases. He also led the modernization of the office’s investigative and case-management systems, including platforms for gang and narcotics intelligence. He holds a B.A. in Psychology from Seton Hall University and completed government-sponsored postgraduate coursework in information technology at George Washington University.
